Business Administration - Automotive Marketing. (2010). Program Outline. Retrieved August 9, 2010 from http://www.georgianc.on.ca/programs/AUTO/outline/

This website provides a detailed outline of the Automotive Marketing program at Georgian College. It breaks down each course that is required, the semester schedules, expectations for admissions, cost and career opportunities. Each topic has an appropriate heading that can be simply understood by the reader and all of the content is straightforward. The content is often updated as soon as new information becomes available. It was lastly updated on June 15, 2010. Everything displayed on this website is useful to prospective students that are not educated about what the program offers. One advantage that Georgian's website offers is the learning outcomes of each program. It is important for students to know ahead of time what they will get out of the whole program once it is completed. It is very well organized and informs students as well as parents about everything they need to do before applying to the program.

First Semester Classes

Here's are some detailed descriptions of the classes you are required to take in your first semester for the Automotive Marketing Diploma Program:

  • Automotive Networks - This course is designed to educate students about the importance of relationships in the automotive industry and how to network within it. Each week there is a selected speaker that comes in to present a lecture to all the students in the course. These speakers are very recognized people in the industry and will provide students with important knowledge for network in their future career and educational opportunities.
  • Concepts of the Automotive Industry - This course teaches students about the history of the automotive industry. It is important for students to know where their current and future opportunities initially came from and how it continues to develop.
  • College Communications - This is mostly a review from high school English. This course goes over basic language use as well as analyzing, researching, and proofreading.
  • Introduction to Marketing - This course will examine how to market products to consumers and consumer behaviors. This is one of the most interesting classes, in my opinion!
  • Financial Accounting Principles - As this is a business program it is important for students to be familiar with accounting. This course teaches students about assets, liabilities, equity, balance sheets, income statements and so on.
  • General Education - Each student is required to take a couple of general education courses that consist of various types of classes like psychology, photography, politics, etc.

Tips for new Fall 2010 students

Hi everyone!

Since I am a second year students in the Automotive Marketing program at Georgian College I thought it would be a good idea to give the new incoming students some tips that might be helpful for your first few weeks at school!

  • Search for your books online using sites like Kijiji or Amazon because they tend to be less costly than they are at the book store on campus
  • Be open to the whole auto show experience - get out there and participate in all activities because it's a great way to make friends and network within the industry
  • Trying to study at the library in the middle of the afternoon is tough because it is very noisy - try going up to the third floor in building K where there is plenty of seating and it's a quiet place
  • It's cheaper to rent a room in a house than it is to live on residence!
  • Don't ever be afraid to ask questions in class - the teacher will tell you that there are no stupid questions
  • Get to know all faculty that you get involved with at school - creating bonds with teachers, advisors, and counselors will help you get recommendations and it will be helpful for networking in the future
  • If you have any issues with academics or personal problems you should visit B110 and see a counselor. They are extremely helpful and completely confidential
  • Go to class! Teachers seem to like putting things on tests that they only discuss in class and aren't in the textbook
These are just a couple of tips for students, please comment if you have any other ones! Hope these are helpful!
